Nutmeg

Nutmeg is a spice derived from the seed of the nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans), which is native to the Banda Islands of Indonesia. It has a warm, slightly sweet flavor with hints of nuttiness and a rich aroma. The nutmeg seed is covered by a red lace-like aril that is used to make mace. After the aril is removed, the seed is ground into a fine powder or grated to produce the spice commonly used in cooking and baking.
